I bought the 2 camera method and this camera is Super! Yes you have to run a wire to power it (Duh!). But the signal is sent by way of two.4ghz. RF (the wireless element). You can mount the tiny DVR anywhere that you can get reception. I have mine down in the Den next to my recliner, but, you can move it conveniently if you need to have to monitor from, say, the kitchen. The two way "intercom" is nice to have!
If you will need power outage protection, you will need to have to install a ups power outlet for every camera (use one for a computer system and hook the camera provide into the outlet from the ups)
I set up the system and installed 2 cameras in an afternoon with out any stress. It did take a tiny planning, but, it was certainly straightforward.
It is a lot less expensive than the multi thousand dollar systems. And the pictures (even following dark) are spectacular!
I have this up and running for 1 month and it is terrific...the picture quality is superior, sound quality good, and night vision is decent, I would decide to purchase this once again..A+
